5 Fun Things To Do With Kids in Idaho This Winter

When winter hits in Idaho, keeping kids entertained can be tricky. As parks, beaches, and lake swimming are no longer options, you might wonder how to channel your kid’s pent-up energy.

Don’t let the cold weather bottle your kids up inside. Below are five wintery ideas for keeping your kids busy and entertained once the snow flies!

5 Fun Things to do With Your Kids This Winter:

  1. Ice Skating

Coeur d’Alene On Ice is a pop-up, full-sized, seasonal ice rink in the heart of beautiful downtown Coeur d’Alene. Ice Skating is a fantastic family-friendly activity that will entertain all ages. Located in McEuen Park, the ice rink is nestled against Tubbs hill and offers views of the lake and surrounding scenery.

The adjoining pavilion features skate rentals, a snack shack, and a party space for hosting birthdays or private events. You can skate with the kids and then relax over a cup of loaded hot cocoa by the fire pit or in one of our private, reservable outdoor igloos! You can purchase tickets ahead of time online, or sign up for a Season Pass

2. Holiday Lights

On Friday, November 25th, the Coeur d’Alene Resort lights up downtown with its Annual Lighting ceremony. Experience the magic of 1.5 million Christmas lights as they light up the town and the lake.

Enjoy the winter Fireworks Shows on Thanksgiving and New Year’s Eve. (There are fantastic views from CDA On Ice!) The tree lighting ceremony is an annual tradition that provides special memories for adults and children alike.

3. Sledding

Not everyone can ski or snowboard, but the entire family can enjoy sledding. Cherry Hill Park is a well-loved favorite spot for getting out in the snow, enjoying the beauty of nature, and experiencing memorable rides with your kids!

4. Downtown Restaurants

Downton Coeur d’Alene enjoys a charming and memorable restaurant scene. Sherman Avenue boasts many family-friendly restaurants from which to grab dinner after a busy day of sledding or quaint cafes to score wintertime treats. At the rink, the snack shack offers our signature hot cocoa, Crumbl cookies, and Bean & Pie hand pies.

5. Journey to the North Pole Cruises

Grab the kids and take a Lake Coeur d’Alene Cruise to see twinkling lights, a fire-breathing dragon, and visit Santa, Mrs. Claus, the Elves, and even the Grinch! This annual tradition creates special memories for the whole family.
Coeur d’Alene can be a magical place, even when under a blanket of thick snow. Thankfully, CDA On Ice is located right in the heart of downtown, with lake views and easy access to amenities like the resort and restaurants. Bring your family for a visit, and be sure to stop by the ice rink to say hi!
